How Lovely: Louise Gray

I have mentioned before that Minneapolis has an abundance of amazing creatives.  Today I wanted to share Louise Gray with you.  These stunning modern quilts are the result of Alexandra Gray Bennett and Jocelin Johnson's collaboration.  Aren't they beautiful?  My favorites are No. 1 and No. 3, but I would take all of them.  I grew up with my mom and grandmother quilting and am so glad when I see this medium executed through the lens of contemporary design.

How Lovely: Tin & Ed

Aren't these product photographs striking?  Tin and Ed are an Australian Creative agency that does amazing work in photography, art direction, design and everything else!  I especially love their product shots.  The playful and inventive aspect of the images makes it easy to appreciate the beauty of the product.  Plus, don't these shots make you want to be friends with the artists?  One of my favorite projects is the Mr Kitly X Decor above.  I also am loving The City of Melbourne, and Adidas x Pharrell Supercolor.

Hallo Berlin

Hello all!  Last weekend we got to celebrate Jette's birthday in Berlin.  It was amazing!  Our first night there we went to the Reichstag Building.  We had dinner in the dome at Feinkost Käfer.  The views from the dinner table and the terrace were breathtaking.  You would have to try the food yourself.  I'm not sure if I am the best proponent of fine dining.  After dinner we took an audio guided walk around the dome.  The renovation of the Reichstag was designed by Norman Foster.  He is known for being a part of the Structural Expressionist style (similar to Renzo Piano).  His integration of high tech architecture with the old neo-classical building is quite elegant.  To see pictures of our sunset walk on the roof click 'read more'.

Wegner og Vand

The next day in Denmark we took a morning walk by the Little Mermaid.   We slowly made our way to the Designmuseum Danmark.  There were really great exhibitions there including Just One Good Chair about Hans Wegner.  It was so interesting to learn about his design process and career.  I love his Shell Chair.  One of the best parts of the museum was where you could sit in the furniture to test out how successful the legendary chairs actually are.  I am here to tell you, there is a reason they are so highly regarded! After spending hours in the museum we went to relax by Nyhavn Harbor and watch the boats go by.  The colorful houses have so much character.  Our last day we spent exploring smaller canals and observe the cyclists of Copenhagen (bike lanes are no joke in Denmark!).  Overall it was an amazing weekend, thanks to the sweet and secretive Zachary.

If you haven't been to Copenhagen I would highly recommend it.  Visiting a city like Copenhagen made me fall in love with design all over again.

Hej København

On Thursday Zach had told me that we were going to Hamburg for the day.  It is only an hour from where we are staying so it seemed plausible!  Mirco works in Hamburg so he was just going to drop us off.  We got to where I thought was Mirco's office parking, but was actually... the airport (it was an early drive so you can't blame me for not recognizing it!).  Zach surprised me yet again, with an amazing weekend trip to Copenhagen!  We spent our first afternoon just exploring the beautiful city.  The next day was put aside strictly for perusing the selection of fine furniture and design (which Copenhagen is bursting at the seams with).  We used Herb Lester's map to begin our journey and then just went in stores that looked interesting.  Some stores we went to included:  Klassik Copenhagen, Carl Hansen & Son, Danish Classic, Illums Bolighus and the Hay House.  Click 'read more' to see more pictures of our day.

Decadent Design: d-raw

Our project this semester in studio is a retail/restaurant space in an old warehouse.  I have been looking at restaurants for inspiration, and this one is my favorite so far.  The design for Zizzi won a Restaurant and Bar Design Award in 11-12.  Isn't the lighting enchanting?  For more information look here.
