Little Somethings: Bike Month
I just wanted to wish you all a Happy Bike Month! Have you been able to ride your bike lately? I started riding my bike to work and love it! It is one of my favorite times of day. Sadly, my bike is in the shop right now, but Zach was kind enough to loan me his bike for the week (his portrait is above). He is a real champ!

Graceful Wear: Winter Make Up
I don't know what city you live in, but winter is definitely here in Manhattan. I used to dread winter, but I quite enjoy winter fashion! My new favorite thing to wear is winter makeup. Pictured in my graphic above is:
White/Silver Eye Shadow in Platinum (My sister gave me one of these and I absolutely love it!)
Cat Eyes with Eyeliner in Matte Black
Layered Eyeliner in Crystal Champagne (I have this in silver, it's fun for a night out)
Black Mascara in Very Black (the new green one is great!)
Nude Lipstick (I haven't tried this specific lipstick, but it looks really cute!)
You should try out some winter make up this weekend,

Fall Florals
With the new season comes the much expected fall color pallet. Jewel tones, dark browns and deep greys have taken over. This doesn't mean you have to put away your spring florals and summer dresses. If you know me well, you know that I love floral dresses and this year I can't bear to pack them up for fall and winter. So, today I autumnized one of my spring dresses by adding patterned tights, boots and a chambray. Check out a quick sketch above. These tights would have also been cute.

October Challenge: No Candy
I don't know about you guys, but I have a terrible sweet tooth. When Halloween candy comes around at the grocery store, I have a bit of trouble passing it up (especially these). I use the Lose-It app to track my calories, and and saw this challenge and decided to do it. The challenge is simple: don't eat candy from October 1st to November 12 (safely after the Halloween candy has been clearanced out). You should do it too!

Simple Geometry: Taj Mahal
I have been hooked on Geometry Daily lately and it gave me a good idea for a vector sketching project of my own. It isn't difficult to make a really complex and detailed drawing of a building, but I thought it would be a challenge to make a drawing of a building using only circles, rectangles and triangles. I also decided to limit myself to four different colors in each illustration. Expect to see more as the semester carries on! The first is the Taj Mahal (click on the image for a better view). What do you think?

Dissect a Design
Hello all! I am still here. This week has been hectic and our studio has been unbearably hot. The heating is still on, there is no air conditioning and it has been in the 70's the last couple of days. Most of my energy has been trying to stay concentrated on working. We just turned in our Dissect a Design Project for Theory of Product Design. We had to find an object at a thrift shop (less than $5), take it apart and dissect it. We found out how all of the pieces were manufactured, what material they were made out of, if they were recyclable and more. We also drew sketches of all of the views of the object and came up with three new designs that served the same functions. Mine was the GeoSafari Talking Microscope. I thought it was a really interesting a fun project. There was also a 15 minute presentation, presentation board (above) and a paper. Pictures of the drawings are below. They are all hand sketched with marker and pen.

Drizzle Day Wear
Spring rain has hit Manhattan. We had a big storm and it has been drizzling all day. Perfect weather for a cute cap, Wellies, a sweater and a scarf. If it starts to rain harder, I wish I had this cute bubble umbrella or this pocket sized one to shield from the storm.

Hello Monday
Hello and happy Monday! How was your weekend? We had our first spring rain (my favorite weather) and it was wonderful. I also had a little bit of extra time since we just finished our project. So I used it to do a quick watercolor of Chicago to commemorate my trip (above).

Lounge in Style

I posted earlier this year about freshening up your wardrobe for school, etc. The truth is, your whole wardrobe should be stylish, even your lounge-wear! Wearing clothes that make you feel good all the time (even when just laying on the couch) will keep you confident and happy. The Daysail Hoodie, Urban Henley, Minnetonka Mocs, and J-Crew Saturday Pants are all great choices over that oversized t-shirt and sweatpants combo I so often throw on.

You are The Presentation
Today we have crits for our desk organizer project, and my teacher gave us some great advice about presentations; you are part of the presentation. While you don't want to outshine your design, powerpoint, etc, you do want to enhance it. Your outfit should coordinate with the colors in your presentation. For the men in our class, this is no challenge. Just throw on a neutral shirt and accent tie. My project is rendered in warm greys, browns, with a dark red accent. I don't have all of the pieces I drew above, but my outfit is similar. Remember to be careful with strong colors like red. A little red can create nice highlights, while too much can be distracting.

Flannel Friday: Wardrobe Pick Me Up
Today is the last day of Wardrobe Pick Me Up. It is also the day I realized that it is February and winter isn't going anywhere, so flannel it is!

Wardrobe Pick Me Up
Do you ever get in a wardrobe slump? Sometimes I just get into the habit of wearing leggings and sweatshirts to class, and it's the worst! It is especially hard to dress cute when it is cold outside. So this week I have decided to do a Wardrobe Pick Me Up to spice up my days. Here's a quick sketch of my outfit today.
